2014 em capas de discos

Há alguns anos, enquanto percorria escaparates com os dedos, na tentativa de encontrar algo que me agradasse, deparei-me com uma capa que logo me chamou à atenção. Nela estava desenhado um polvo gigante, ao estilo de Roger Dean, que conhecia através das capas que ele havia feito para os Yes. Não me tinha enganado: decidi pegar nele e trazê-lo para casa onde, depois de o abrir, vi o nome de Roger Dean.

Convém esclarecer que este era o tempo imediatamente antes da democratização da Internet, ou, para o que interessa agora, antes de eu ter Internet, pelo que esta minha compra foi inteiramente feita por instinto. E se neste caso correu bem, tendo sido os Gentle Giant e, particularmente este álbum, Octopus, um dos meus mais valiosos achados (juntamente com o Hats, dos Blue Nile, que comprei em circunstâncias idênticas), houve outros casos em que os negócios correram menos bem, mais concretamente com o Quench, dos Beautiful South. Porém, a força das capas era suficiente para, mesmo tendo algumas más experiências pelo caminho, nunca desanimar.

Actualmente, a força das capas não me leva a comprar discos – há demasiada informação on-line para continuar a comprar às cegas –, mas é um dos pontos que me leva a escolher os discos a que me irei dedicar, de entre os milhentos que saem todos os anos e os ainda mais que saíram desde há décadas.
